Tails for Balance and Protection
The long tails of sauropods served as counterbalances for the dinosaurs' long necks. The bases of these tails were thick and muscular, and the tips were often thin and whip-like.
Earth-shakers: the largest animals ever to walk on land.
With massive bodies, legs like tree trunks, and lengthy necks and tails, sauropods were the ponderous giants of the dinosaur world. Like king-sized giraffes, these dinosaurs browsed in the treetops, eating bushels of leaves each day to maintain their huge bodies. Sauropods were Earth-shakersโthe largest animals ever to walk on land.

The long tails of sauropods served as counterbalances for the dinosaurs' long necks. The bases of these tails were thick and muscular, and the tips were often thin and whip-like.

If all dinosaurs competed for the same food, many would have gone hungry. Instead, different types of dinosaurs evolved to eat different types of food.

Sauropods had either peg-like teeth, which acted like a rake to pull leaves off trees, or sharp, spoon-shaped teeth, which were used to snip off leaves and twigs.

All sauropods are saurischians, or lizard-hipped dinosaurs, with strong bones and pillar-like legs and feet to support their great weight.
