Egg-Headed Dinosaur
If you didn't look closely, you might mistake this Prenocephale skull for a giant fossil egg! This fossil skull of a bone-headed dinosaur was found in soft sandstone in the Gobi Desert. The inside of the skull was so well preserved that the fine bones of the brain case, with openings for nerves and blood vessels, can be seen perfectly.
Bonehead bashingPrenocephale had an egg-shaped dome on its head that was nearly a foot thick. Like a crash helmet, this thick skull may have protected Prenocephale as the dinosaur participated in head-bashing contests with rival males.
