Ankylosaurus

ang-KY-loh-SOR-us name means β€œFused lizard”

This armored tank packed a bone club tail powerful enough to cripple a T. rex!

When Ankylosaurus swung its heavy tail club, other dinosaurs got out of the way. The "club" was an impressive weapon, made of two large balls of fused bone that were embedded in the dinosaur's thick skin and attached to the rest of the tail bones. Ankylosaurus also had thick armor plates and spikes all over its body to protect it from attack.

Ankylosaurus's tail club measured more than three feet across. The base of the dinosaur's tail must have been very flexible and muscular to swing such a weapon. Although Ankylosaurus may have been no match in size for a giant carnivore like Tyrannosaurus rex, one well-aimed blow could have disabled a big meat-eater.
