droh-MIS-ee-oh-MY-mus name means β€œEmu mimic”

The speedster of the Cretaceous β€” this emu look-alike could outrun almost any dinosaur alive.

Dromiceiomimus is thought to have been one of the quickest dinosaurs. It may have raced around on its back legs, alert and wide-eyed, using its speed to escape from bigger dinosaurs and to chase down the insects and small lizards it ate. Because of its small size and high level of activity, some experts think that Dromiceiomimus may have been warm-blooded.

Ostrich Dinosaurs

Dromiceiomimus is a member of a group of small, fast-running dinosaurs that look surprisingly like a modern ostrich. This similarity in structure is what leads scientists to conclude that these small dinosaurs might have run as fast as an ostrich, over thirty miles per hour.

StruthiomimusThis small, fast dinosaur is a cousin of Dromiceiomimus. Both were small theropods that must have used their speed as their primary defense to escape danger.
