The Age of Amphibians

300 million years ago, before the Age of Dinosaurs, amphibians such as Eryops dominated the swamps. They were stronger than early amphibians and became more independent of the water. However, they still had to return to water to lay their eggs, as amphibians do today.

Modern relatives? The remains of Eryops were found in the southern United States. The alligator, present-day inhabitant of the swamps in that same area, looks remarkably similar, don't you think?
